Training

Wilderness Martial Arts trains student to be self-confident, self-reliant, adaptable, and focused. We believe in building future leaders and highly-proficient individuals, families, neighborhoods and communities.  WMA incorporates the virtues of bushido, the outdoor code and 3 elements of martial arts.

Martial Arts Training

Learn self-defense, self-confidence, and respect for self and others. Shorin-Ryu is an Okinawan martial art that was developed as a combination of karate and shaolin kung fu, utilizing natural breathing, relaxed (natural) stances, and circular, rather than direct defenses. Keeping the body in a natural state of being allows students to effectively and efficiently defend themself with minimal effort.

WMA also incorporates elements of many other martial arts as well, striving to develop well- rounded students. Students will be introduced to weapons once they reach higher ranking, starting with the katana (Japanese sword). As you progess, other weapons will be introduced. Students will not only learn the use of the weapons, but the history and development of those weapons. You will also learn martial philosophies, principles, and history of development.

Outdoor Training

Students will learn skills and techinques that can be used to enhance the outdoor experience. The outdoor environment can be an exciting and rewarding as well as a formidable opponent. You will be trained to recognize potential hazards before they occur and be better prepared to handle emergencies when they do arise.

You will learn how to adapt yourself and items you have or find to help effect your experience in a positive manner. Students learn the basics from knot ties and fire building to more advanced things like map and compass navigation and rescue techniques. WMA wants to prepare students for whatever they many encounter.

Seminars

Wilderness Martial Arts has developed a 3 part self-defense series. The goal of the series is to increase self-awareness and give participants the means to first avoid potentially harmful situations, then effectively implement your escape to safety.

This is not a "teach you to stay and fight" type series. Self-defense is about protecting yourself and those who cannot. WMA has developed the 3 part series to address the different levels of self-defense; Awareness, Escape, and Defensive strategies and techniques.

Know your choices and be ever vigilant.
